NOTE: I do not subscribe to any religion. I once believed in Masoretic Text translations until I dug deeper and came to a different conclusion during my search through Christian denominational teachings, their leaders, and the roots of how they started, while reading the Bible itself verse by verse a few times (many translations) or more to match up their beliefs to the spiritual book they claim to follow and believe in themselves. If you ask me what I believe, I would say what the scholarly census has agreed upon, even if the decision board doesn't agree with them because they're worried about the faith of humanity for what they were taught to believe despite it contradicting evidence. Anything I've studied, watched, read is added here to help you see how I got to this point to help others who are curious too.

The Faithfull discreet slave contradiction

This is how the doctrine started.

Thus, in the October-November 1881 issue of the magazine, C. T. Russell stated: “We believe that every member of this body of Christ is engaged in the blessed work, either directly or indirectly, of giving meat in due season to the household of faith. ‘Who then is that faithful and wise servant whom his Lord hath made ruler over his household,’ to give them meat in due season? Is it not that ‘little flock’ of consecrated servants who are faithfully carrying out their consecration vows—the body of Christ—and is not the whole body individually and collectively, giving the meat in due [s]eason to the household of faith—the great company of believers? Blessed is that servant (the whole body of Christ) whom his Lord when he has come (Gr. elthon) shall find so doing. ‘Verily, I say unto you, that he shall make him ruler over all his goods.’”

  • At this time, it was EVERY member.

Over a decade later, however, Brother Russell’s wife publicly expressed the idea that Russell himself was the faithful and wise servant* The view that she voiced concerning the identity of the ‘faithful servant’ came to be generally held by the Bible Students for some 30 years. Brother Russell did not reject their view, but he personally avoided making such an application of the text, emphasizing his opposition to the idea of a clergy class commissioned to teach God’s Word in contrast to a lay class that was not thus commissioned. The understanding expressed by Brother Russell in 1881 that the faithful and wise servant was in reality a collective servant, made up of all the members of the spirit-anointed body of Christ on earth, was reaffirmed in The Watch Tower of February 15, 1927.—Compare Isaiah 43:10

  • They held the view of his wife that he was the only servant, and he never corrected it, but let it be. Then about 30 years later after he died, they reaffirmed it to be of members of only the "anointed" not "every member" this time, in 1927. CR didn't know that he was "handed over all things" or at least didn't acknowledge it.

3 Jesus has appointed the faithful and discreet slave “over his domestics,” that is, the individual members of the slave class, “to give them their food at the proper time.” He has also appointed the slave “over all his belongings.” (Matt. 24:45-47

  • Mat 24:46

“Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.

Jesus’ disciples alone saw him depart, even as only Jehovah’s Witnesses recognize his invisible return.

  • Key word "saw".

4 Yes, it is high time to awake from the gloomy darkness that envelops the old world system, including its religious organizations, and to enjoy the refreshing light of truthIt is already over forty years since the manifold sign of Jesus’ second coming began to be observed with the outbreak of World War I in 1914.

Then again, Jesus may also have referred to the apostle John in a prophetic or pictorial sense and he may here have foreshadowed the remnant of the body of Christ that has remained until the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ invisibly in 1914.

However, the resurrecting of even the first ones of the human dead must wait till after the “presence,” or parousia, of Jesus Christ begins. This official presence begins with his second coming. According to the “sign” that Jesus foretold and also according to certain Bible time measurements, his invisible “presence,” or parousia, began in autumn of 1914 C.E.—Matt. 24:3.a

  •  So, when did he appoint all his belongings? As read above, it is at his return, right?

When were God’s people held captive by Babylon the Great?

That spiritual captivity lasted from the second century C.E. to 1919. Why is this adjusted view warranted?

All the evidence indicates that this captivity ended in 1919 when anointed Christians were gathered into the restored congregation. Consider: God’s people were tested and refined during the years following the establishment of God’s Kingdom in the heavens in 1914.a (Mal. 3:1-4) Then, in 1919, Jesus appointed “the faithful and discreet slave” over God’s cleansed people to give them spiritual “food at the proper time.”

  • So, not what was previously held, first all members, then CR, then anointed body, now, people in 1919 after JR and colleges released from jail.

  • So, JR must be important?

  • So not given the belongings in Mat 24:46 on his "return"

In this time of the end, Christ has committed “all his belongings”—all the earthly interests of the Kingdom—to his “faithful and discreet slave” and its representative Governing Body, a group of anointed Christian men. (Matt. 24:45-47

  • Three years later...

Finally, we examined why Jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings did not occur in 1919 but will take place during the great tribulation.

  • So, who are they then? Acting in the place of their own "prophecy"? On his 3rd return?

JESUS assured us that after his death and resurrection, he would raise up a “faithful and discreet slave” that would serve as his channel of communication. (Matthew 24:45-47) The apostle Paul identified this channel to the Ephesian Christians when he wrote that “there might be made known through the congregation the greatly diversified wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose that he formed in connection with the Christ, Jesus our Lord.” (Ephesians 3:10, 11) It was the congregation of anointed Christians, born at Pentecost 33 C.E., that was entrusted with the “things revealed.” (Deuteronomy 29:29) As a group, anointed Christians serve as the faithful and discreet slave. (Luke 12:42-44) Their appointed assignment from God is to provide spiritual understanding of the “things revealed.”

  • First highlight taking the verse out of context SOOOO BAD.

  • Now they are saying they are those first appointed, though we are to wait till his return for that duty?

"we know the master Jesus, found the faithful discreet slave, spiritually feeding "right hearted ones" in 1919. And at a future time, will appoint him over all his belongings"-Steve Lett

  • So, this slave entered the master's household and started feeding the flock without being appointed.

  • They said Jesus appointed the faithful slave in 1919, but they said in 1919 in their publication that in 1919 Russel was the slave. Russel died in 1916, which leads to 3 problems:

  1. The appointed slave did not know he was appointed

  2. The appointed slave was teaching someone else was the appointed slave

  3. The appointed slave did not know that the appointed took place in 1919 because Russel died 3 years earlier, 1916.

  • So, these publications can't be trusted.

Are they led by spirit or not? Aren't they "anointed"?

12 The Governing Body is neither inspired nor infallible. Therefore, it can err in doctrinal matters or in organizational direction. In fact, the Watch Tower Publications Index includes the heading “Beliefs Clarified,” which lists adjustments in our Scriptural understanding since 1870.

  • Not only can the uninspired slave make mistakes, but SINCE 1870. How can you trust that, especially when they say themselves, they can't understand it themselves even when they re-read it?

"As we understand it, some things Jehovah will not permit us to see even though we re-read over it many many times" -Sam herd

"The Governing Body could be likened to the voice of Jesus, the head of the congregation. So when we willingly submit to the faithful slave, we're ultimately submitting to Jesus' authority and direction." Kenneth Flodin: ‘Jesus’ Yoke Is Kindly’

  • This is reminiscent of a quote by Jesus.

  • Luke 21:8

"Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name claiming, 'I am he,' and 'The time is near.' Do not follow them."

  • "what I'm about to reveal to you today, Jehovah is behind it"…so inspired?

"for the time of the end Jesus will appoint a faithful and discreet slave or governing body, to explain the bible to his followers and help them to grow into understanding of the truth. Whereas Jesus teachings and the written word of God are inspired, the faithful and discreet slave is not inspired although it champions the truth. Nevertheless the faithful slave provides spiritual food. "

  • Just watch the rest on covering their asses.

 Different year? Only them?

12 According to an inaccurate chronology that had been worked out from the King James Authorized Version Bible, Russell calculated that Christ’s “presence” had begun in the year 1874 C.E., unseen to human eyes and seen only by the eye of faith. This was why, when he began publishing a new religious magazine in defense of the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Russell entitled it “Zion’s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.”

Jesus’ disciples alone saw him depart, even as only Jehovah’s Witnesses recognize his invisible return.

Their opinion on making things "simpler"

The new official Revised Standard Version has taken the view that the New Testament was written at a time when the Greek language was no longer used with precision by ordinary people, so that an attempt at great precision in translation is superfluous, and a rather free translation may rightly be used for the sake of smooth English. My view, on the contrary, is that everything in this world has a cause; when anybody uses one word and not another, there is always a cause for its being this word and not that; and it is a translator’s business to come as near as he can to the ideal of always recognizing the cause and reproducing the effect. The person, educated or uneducated, who uses one word without discrimination of its strict meaning will use another word with very strict discrimination, and the word that he does not discriminate is likely to be discriminated by his next-door neighbor. And the effort to gain smoothness by abandoning precision is not favorable even to English literary style: it tends toward monotony; it tends to lose the sharp flavor that the original got by choosing an unobvious word; and of course, when the original expressed an epigrammatic significance in crabbed language because no other language would have expressed it without prolixity, the insistence on smoothness tends to lose this significance. Phrases in my translation which look like fanciful attempts to decorate my style are likely to be simply careful attempts to reproduce the original with unwonted precision. Even where a distinction between two forms of expression means no more than that different forms are habitual to different writers, or that a writer varied his form for the sake of avoiding monotony, the distinction should not be abandoned without considering what could have been done to keep it.

  • So, they think dumbing down is bad? But they talk to them now and write their bible and publications in adolescence, in order for people to understand?

To organize or not to organize

Old Light

WT 1893

God’s church, when completed and organized, will be all

that is given above as the Catholic or Episcopal view but it

is not yet completed, and hence not yet organized. When

organized, it will be clothed with power and will he. “not a

democracy, but an empire; not a republic, but a kingdom

As such it \will] come to man [the world— during the Mil

lennium! with divine authority [and with power to back up

that authority]. Its officers are [then to be] under oath to

the Eternal King, and they are to minister to man in his

name, and for him.” All this, it is to be noted, fits exactly to

the coming reign of the church, when it shall “bless all the

families of the earth;” but it does not fit at all to the present

state or condition. There is no organization today clothed

with such divine authority to imperiously command mankind

There is no organization doing this today, though we are

well aware that many of them in theory claim that they

ought to be permitted to do so: and many more would like

to do so.

 pg. 90

WT 1894

Another point of contrast which this lesson suggests is that

between the Lord’s methods for the harvest work of the Jewish

age and the subsequent methods of the inspired apostles,

equally under the Lord’s direction and supervision, which not

only winnowed the grain of that harvest, but also sought to

systematically store it. The wheat of that dispensation was to

form the nucleus of the Christian church— the embryo king

dom of heaven— which as a compact and sympathetic body

subject to Christ, imbued with his spirit, and representing his

truth, was to stand before the world as a living testimony to

his truth and to the power of his grace for nearly two thou

sand years. It was necessary, therefore, as believers multi

plied in the days of the apostles, to adopt some simple method

of recognition which would serve to unify them and to make

them helpful one to another as members of one body.

But as that work of organizing the church of the new

Gospel dispensation was no part of the harvest work of the

old Jewish dispensation, so the present harvest work or reap

ing of the Gospel dispensation is also separate and distinct

from the work of the new Millennial dispensation now drawing

on. But there is this difference between our days and those

of the apostles: the wheat of the Gospel age is not to form

the nucleus of another church for the Millennial age; and

those gathered out from among the tares are not beginning,

but are finishing their course on earth, and the time of their

sojourn in the flesh is very short and cannot go beyond the

twenty years of harvest yet remaining. Their organization for

the work of the new dispensation will be beyond the vail, when

they are changed to the glorious likeness of the Lord.

In view of’ these facts and also of the nature of the harvest

work, and the additional fact that each one so gathered is

expected to enter into the harvest work as a reaper, and will

do so to the extent of his ability and opportunity, it is plain

that the forming of a visible organization of such gathered

out ones would be out of harmony with the spirit of the divine

plan; and if done would seem to indicate on the part of the

church a desire to conform to the now popular idea of organi

zation or confederacy. (See Isa. 8:12) The work now is not

organization, but division, just as it was in the Jewish harvest

proper (Matt. 10:34-36) And this harvest, as illustrated by

the natural, is the busiest time of all the age, because the time

is short and the “winter” is fast approaching. What is to be

done must be done quickly, and there is abundant room in the

great field for every member of the body of Christ to reap.

While, therefore, we do not esteem a visible organization

of the gathered ones to be a part of the Lord’s plan in the

harvest work, as though we expected as an organization to

abide here for another age, we do esteem it to be his will that

those that love the Lord should speak often one to another of

their common hopes and joys, or trials and perplexities, com

muning together concerning the precious things of his Word,

and so help one another, and not forget the assembling of

themselves together as the manner of some is; and so much

the more as they see the day approaching. — IIeb. 10:25.

pg.139

  •  Proof they still use these old ones.

WT 1895

“We have a number of persons here who wish to assemble

themselves together for worship. We would be pleased to

have some instructions from you as to how to go about it.

“I hope you can give us some way which will be satis

factory. Some of us have left the churches and are now

free from all precepts of men. To speak for myself, I left the

Presbyterian church.

“Yours in Christ, C. C. Fleming.”

We are glad to note the increasing desire for the study of

God’s plan of the ages; and also to see that the importance

of method and order are recognized in this. We give our

advice as follows: —

(1) You would best first re-read some things already

written which bear upon this subject— in our issues of May

1, ’93, page 131; Sept. ’93, page 259; Oct. 15, ’93, page 307;

Mar. 1, ’94, page 73; April 1, ’95, page 78; May 1, ’95,

page 109.

(2) Beware of “ organization.” It is wholly unnecessary.

The Bible rules will be the only rules you will need. Do not

seek to bind others’ consciences, and do not permit others to

bind yours. Believe and obey so far as you can understand

God’s Word today, and so continue growing in grace and

knowledge and love day by day.

(3) The Bible instructs you whom to fellowship as

“ brethren;”— only believers who are seeking to walk, not

after the flesh, but after the spirit. Not believers of any

and every thing, but believers of the Gospel record— that

mankind is fallen into sin and its penalty, death, and that

only in Christ is there salvation, “ through faith in his

blood” “ shed for the remission of sins,” as “ a ransom, [a

corresponding price] for all.” Any who merely believe in

Christ as a noble and good person, a grand example of

righteous living, etc., may be agreeable as neighbors or busi

ness acquaintances, but they are not “believers,” and hence are

not “ brethren,” any more than are Jews, Mohammedans,

Infidels, publicans and sinners— for practically these also so

acknowledge him.

(4) You come together, then, as God’s children, bought

back from sin and death with the great price, and resolved

henceforth to live not unto yourselves, but unto him who died

for you. (2 Cor. 5:15) Your meetings should have certain

objects in view, v iz:—

(a) Worship, praise and prayer.

(b) Mutual helpfulness in waging victorious warfare

against the world, the flesh and the devil within and without.

(c) And to these ends you meet also for the study of

God’s Word, which he provided for our instruction and help

in the narrow way which leads to those blessings prepared

by him for those who love him and who demonstrate their

love by their efforts to serve, honor and obey him.

(5) Thus seen, a knowledge of doctrines is not our

ultimate object in meeting, but the building up of characters,

which, as attempted copies of the character of God’s dear Son,

will be “ accepted in the Beloved.” But God declares that

knowledge of the doctrines which he has revealed in his Word

will be of great value to us in our endeavors to grow in his

grace.

Hence, after worship, praise and prayer, Bible study should

be recognized in its two parts,— (a) The study of God’s plan,

— what he tells us he is doing for us and for the world; what

he has done; and what he will yet do; that we may be

enabled as sons to enter into the very spirit of the great

work of God and be intelligent co-workers with him. (b) The

study of our duties and privileges in God’s service, toward

each other and toward those that are without, to the end that

September 15, 1895 Z I O N ’ S W A T C H T O W E R (217 2 lo,

we may build up such characters as would be pleasing and

acceptable to God now and in the age to come.

And since for general convenience these meetings should

not last much longer than from one and a half to two hours,

it will generally be found best to have at least two meetings

per week, one for the consideration of Christian graces and

testimony and mutual helpfulness; and the other for Bible

study. And at every meeting our songs and prayers of

thankful worship should ascend as incense before God; and in

this worship all should share.

Amongst us, as in the early church, the preaching of

formal discourses is the exception, rather than the rule. The

exception should be where some brother has the necessary

qualifications— clear appreciation of the truth and ability to

set it forth so as to be helpful to the Lord’s flock, with

qualifications also of voice, education, etc., and withal, surely

one who is meek and not likely to become puffed up, or to

preach himself, rather than the cross of Christ.

But, whether there be preaching or no preaching, the other

meetings, in which all can and should take part (both brethren

and sisters), should be kept up; and each of the saints (con

secrated “believers” ) should seek in them to do good, as well

as to get good.— See Rom. 14:19; Eph. 4:11-32; 1 Thes. 5:11.

(6) What shall be our standard by which we may know

the truth and prove it? We answer, “ The Word of God is

profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruc

tion in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect

ed Tin knowledge and conduct]

New Light

WT 1957

The world is full of Bibles, which Book contains the commandments of God. Why, then, do the people not know which way to go? Because they do not also have the teaching or law of the mother, which is light. Jehovah God has provided his holy written Word for all mankind and it contains all the information that is needed for men in taking a course leading to life. But God has not arranged for that Word to speak independently or to shine forth life-giving truths by itself. His Word says: “Light is sown for the righteous.” (Ps. 97:11) It is through his organization that God provides this light that the proverb says is the teaching or law of the mother. If we are to walk in the light of truth we must recognize not only Jehovah God as our Father but his organization as our mother.

WT 1972

Christ Jesus continues to exercise full headship of the true Christian congregation earth wide today. And, just as he did back then, he uses earthly agencies to express that headship. The first-century Christian congregation had a governing body composed of apostles and elders at Jerusalem. A similar body of anointed Christians functions now. This governing body is the administrative part of a “faithful and discreet slave” or “steward” class concerning which Jesus promised: “His master . . . will appoint him over all his belongings.” (Matt. 24:45-47; Luke 12:42-44) So, recognition of that governing body and its place in God’s theocratic arrangement of things is necessary for submission to the headship of God’s Son.

You can live forever in paradise…

A third requirement is that we be associated with God’s channel, his organization. God has always used an organization. For example, only those in the ark in Noah’s day survived the Flood, and only those associated with the Christian congregation in the first century had God’s favor. (Acts 4:12) Similarly, Jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will. To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it.

The fourth requirement is connected with loyalty. God requires that prospective subjects of his Kingdom support his government by loyally advocating his Kingdom rule to others. Jesus Christ explained: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth.” (Matthew 24:14) Will you meet this requirement by telling others about God’s Kingdom?

AWAKE! 2012

It is God’s will that instead of being a loose association of spiritually-minded individuals, true worshippers merge into a tight community of faith. The Bible exhorts worshippers to speak in agreement, to avoid divisions, and to be “fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought.” (1 Corinthians 1:10) Those words would make little sense if God wanted people to worship him only as individuals apart from one another.

Clearly, evidence from the Bible points to an organized form of worship as the kind that is acceptable to God. And the organized religion that the Scriptures describe, the one that God sponsors, can give you the support you require to be successful in satisfying your spiritual needs.—Matthew 5:3.

Granted, many organized religions today are guilty of hypocrisy and countless atrocities. Yet, this does not mean that you should repudiate all organized religion. There must be a religion on earth that is organized to show love to all people—a religion that is organized to educate others about God’s moral principles. Such an organized religion can help you to build genuine faith. The Bible provides the necessary clues that can help you to identify the kind of organized worship that is acceptable to God.

THE WHATCHTOWER ANNOUNCING JEHOVAHS KINGDOM-2013

17 Elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) The most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of “the Assyrian” is that of strengthening our faith in God and helping our brothers to do the same. (2) When “the Assyrian” attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that Jehovah will deliver us. (3) At that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not. (4) Now is the time for any who may be putting their trust in secular education, material things, or human institutions to adjust their thinking. The elders must stand ready to help any who may now be wavering in their faith.

Holidays and pagan ways

When considering whether to include a piñata at a social gathering, Christians should be sensitive to the consciences of others. (1 Corinthians 10:31-33) A main concern is, not what the practice meant hundreds of years ago, but how it is viewed today in your area. Understandably, opinions may vary from one place to another. Hence, it is wise to avoid turning such matters into big issues. The Bible says: “Let each one keep seeking, not his own advantage, but that of the other person.”—1 Corinthians 10:24.

Resurrection is a gift from a loving God. He bestows it on those whom he wants to give an opportunity to serve him forever. (Job 14:13, 14; John 6:44) Will Solomon receive such a gift? Jehovah knows the answer; we do not. We do know, though, that Jehovah will do what is right.

WHAT WE DO KNOW

10. How does Jehovah feel about destroying humans? (Ezekiel 33:11) (See also picture.)

Your answer

10 Read Ezekiel 33:11. When it comes to the way he judges humans, Jehovah kindly reveals to us how he feels. The apostle Peter was inspired to echo what the prophet Ezekiel wrote, saying that “Jehovah . . . does not desire anyone to be destroyed.” (2 Pet. 3:9) In the light of that reassuring truth, we know that Jehovah is not quick to destroy people once and for all. He is profoundly merciful, and he shows mercy whenever possible.

However, she has not done so. Instead, in her quest for peace and security, she insinuates herself into the favor of the political leaders of the nations—this despite the Bible’s warning that friendship with the world is enmity with God. (James 4:4) Moreover, in 1919 she strongly advocated the League of Nations as man’s best hope for peace. Since 1945 she has put her hope in the United Nations. (Compare Revelation 17:3, 11.) How extensive is her involvement with this organization?

Several of the world’s religious leaders have visited the international organization. Most memorable were the visits of His Holiness Pope Paul VI during the General Assembly in 1965 and of Pope John Paul II in 1979. Many religions have special invocations, prayers, hymns and services for the United Nations. The most important examples are those of the Catholic, the Unitarian-Universalist, the Baptist and the Bahai faiths.”

Affiliation with the United Nations:

  • Surprisingly, between 1992 and 2001, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York (the legal entity representing Jehovah’s Witnesses) was associated with the United Nations as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

  • This affiliation was likely for political influence, although it caused controversy when it became public knowledge.

  • The membership was eventually rescinded after public outcry2.

Authority bias

Is the tendency to attribute greater accuracy to the opinion of an authority figure (unrelated to its content) and be more influenced by that opinion.[1] An individual is more influenced by the opinion of this authority figure, believing their views to be more credible, and hence place greater emphasis on the authority figure's viewpoint and are more likely to obey them. This concept is considered one of the social cognitive biases or collective cognitive biases.

Humans generally have a deep-seated duty to authority and tend to comply when requested by an authority figure.

Egocentric bias

Is the tendency to rely too heavily on one's own perspective and/or have a higher opinion of oneself than reality. It appears to be the result of the psychological need to satisfy one's ego and to be advantageous for memory consolidation. Research[by whom?] has shown[citation needed][weasel words] that experiences, ideas, and beliefs are more easily recalled when they match one's own, causing an egocentric outlook. Michael Ross and Fiore Sicoly first identified this cognitive bias in their 1979 paper, "Egocentric Biases in Availability and Attribution". Egocentric bias is referred to by most psychologists as a general umbrella term under which other related phenomena fall.

The effects of egocentric bias can differ based on personal characteristics, such as age and the number of languages one speaks. Thus far, there have been many studies focusing on specific implications of egocentric bias in different contexts. Research on collaborative group tasks have emphasized that people view their own contributions differently than they view that of others. Other areas of research have been aimed at studying how mental health patients display egocentric bias, and at the relationship between egocentric bias and voter distribution. These types of studies surrounding egocentric bias usually involve written or verbal questionnaires, based on the subject's personal life or their decision in various hypothetical scenarios.

Confabulation

Is a memory error consisting of the production of fabricated, distorted, or misinterpreted memories about oneself or the world. It is generally associated with certain types of brain damage (especially aneurysm in the anterior communicating artery) or a specific subset of dementias. While still an area of ongoing research, the basal forebrain is implicated in the phenomenon of confabulation. People who confabulate present with incorrect memories ranging from subtle inaccuracies to surreal fabrications and may include confusion or distortion in the temporal framing (timing, sequence or duration) of memories. In general, they are very confident about their recollections, even when challenged with contradictory evidence.

Confabulation occurs when individuals mistakenly recall false information, without intending to deceive. Brain damage, dementia, and anticholinergic toxidrome can cause this distortion. Two types of confabulations exist: provoked and spontaneous, with two distinctions: verbal and behavioral. Verbal statements, false information, and the patient's unawareness of the distortion are all associated with this phenomenon. Personality structure also plays a role in confabulation.

Confabulation is distinguished from lying as there is no intent to deceive, and the person is unaware the information is false. Although individuals can present blatantly false information, confabulation can also seem to be coherent, internally consistent, and relatively normal...

Confabulation of events or situations may lead to an eventual acceptance of the confabulated information as true. For instance, people who knowingly lie about a situation may eventually come to believe that their lies are truthful with time. In an interview setting, people are more likely to confabulate in situations in which they are presented false information by another person, as opposed to when they self-generate these falsehoods. Further, people are more likely to accept false information as true when they are interviewed at a later time (after the event in question) than those who are interviewed immediately or soon after the event. Affirmative feedback for confabulated responses is also shown to increase the confabulator's confidence in their response. For instance, in culprit identification, if a witness falsely identifies a member of a line-up, he will be more confident in his identification if the interviewer provides affirmative feedback. This effect of confirmatory feedback appears to last over time, as witnesses will even remember the confabulated information months later.

Persecution Complex

Arises when a person falsely believes that someone is out to cause them harm. The intensity and longevity of these feelings can differ, as can the object of the paranoia.

In all examples, sufferers believe that either a person, group of people or an organization is going to cause them harm.

Sufferers from a persecution complex will typically talk in vague terms. They will say ‘They’re out to get me’ or ‘Someone’s listening to my calls’. However, when pressed further they are unable to identify the perpetrator.

Sufferers share three common aspects in the way they think, feel and then act. To understand this complex further we need to examine three main human behavioral processes: Emotional processing, Abnormal internal events, Reasoning biases.

As well as the above three common traits, there are other commonalities that sufferers may share.

Childhood trauma – Psychosis and paranoia can be linked to neglect, abuse and trauma in childhood.

Genetics – Delusional thinking is more common in those who already have a family member suffering from a psychosis such as schizophrenia.

Low self-worth – People with a low sense of self-worth, who are vulnerable to criticism and have little self-esteem are more likely to succumb to paranoid delusions.

Overly-critical of themselves – Research has shown that those who are overly critical of themselves can suffer from a persecution complex.

Worriers – Those with a persecution complex have a tendency to worry and ruminate more than the average person. They’ll also catastrophize and fantasies about implausible outcomes.

Over-sensitive – People with paranoid delusions can appear oversensitive to criticism from others. They are more likely to perceive a light-hearted comment as a personal attack on them.

  • Just an opening to condition them to Persecution complex.

There 2024 convention music video of seeing JW signs being torn down and told to obey obey obey and toe voice of strangers are danger danger danger… does all this.  They try and make it look real, and constantly tell them they're being attacked, how else would you think walking out of that. Highlighted because I'm waiting for it to come out to post, I think it's the same lyrics as the song in "conditioning" above.

Supersessionism

Also called replacement theology, is the Christian doctrine that the Christian Church has superseded the Jewish people, assuming their role as God's covenanted people, thus asserting that the New Covenant through Jesus Christ has superseded or replaced the Mosaic covenant. Supersessionists hold that the universal Church has become God's true Israel and so Christians, whether Jew or gentile, are the people of God.

  • Yeah they're not the only ones, but they fit like a glove.

Motivated forgetting

Is a theorized psychological behavior in which people may forget unwanted memories, either consciously or unconsciously. It is an example of a defense mechanism, since these are unconscious or conscious coping techniques used to reduce anxiety arising from unacceptable or potentially harmful impulses thus it can be a defense mechanism in some ways. Defense mechanisms are not to be confused with conscious coping strategies.

Thought suppression is a method in which people protect themselves by blocking the recall of these anxiety-arousing memories. For example, if something reminds a person of an unpleasant event, their mind may steer towards unrelated topics. This could induce forgetting without being generated by an intention to forget, making it a motivated action. There are two main classes of motivated forgetting: psychological repression is an unconscious act, while thought suppression is a conscious form of excluding thoughts and memories from awareness.

Double bind

Is a dilemma in communication in which an individual (or group) receives two or more reciprocally conflicting messages. In some scenarios (e.g. within families or romantic relationships) this can be emotionally distressing, creating a situation in which a successful response to one message results in a failed response to the other (and vice versa), such that the person responding will automatically be perceived as in the wrong, no matter how they respond. This double bind prevents the person from either resolving the underlying dilemma or opting out of the situation.

Double bind theory was first stated by Gregory Bateson and his colleagues in the 1950s, in a theory on the origins of schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Double binds are often utilized as a form of control without open coercion—the use of confusion makes them difficult both to respond to and to resist. A double bind generally includes different levels of abstraction in the order of messages and these messages can either be stated explicitly or implicitly within the context of the situation, or they can be conveyed by tone of voice or body language. Further complications arise when frequent double binds are part of an ongoing relationship to which the person or group is committed.

The double bind is often misunderstood to be a simple contradictory situation, where the subject is trapped by two conflicting demands. While it is true that the core of the double bind is two conflicting demands, the difference lies in how they are imposed upon the subject, what the subject's understanding of the situation is, and who (or what) imposes these demands upon the subject. Unlike the usual no-win situation, the subject has difficulty in defining the exact nature of the paradoxical situation in which they are caught. The contradiction may be unexpressed in its immediate context and therefore invisible to external observers, only becoming evident when a prior communication is considered. Typically, a demand is imposed upon the subject by someone whom they respect (such as a parent, teacher, or doctor) but the demand itself is inherently impossible to fulfill because some broader context forbids it. For example, this situation arises when a person in a position of authority imposes two contradictory conditions but there exists an unspoken rule that one must never question authority.

Gregory Bateson and his colleagues defined the double bind as follows[1] (paraphrased):

  1. The situation involves two or more people, one of whom (for the purpose of the definition), is designated as the "subject". The others are people who are considered the subject's superiors: figures of authority (such as parents), whom the subject respects.

  2. Repeated experience: the double bind is a recurrent theme in the experience of the subject, and as such, cannot be resolved as a single traumatic experience.

  3. A 'primary injunction' is imposed on the subject by the others generally in one of two forms:

    • (a) "Do X, or I will punish you";

    • (b) "Do not do X, or I will punish you."

The punishment may include the withdrawing of love, the expression of hate and anger, or abandonment resulting from the authority figure's expression of helplessness.

  4. A 'secondary injunction' is imposed on the subject, conflicting with the first at a higher and more abstract level. For example: "You must do X, but only do it because you want to." It is unnecessary for this injunction to be expressed verbally.

  5. If necessary, a 'tertiary injunction' is imposed on the subject to prevent them from escaping the dilemma. See phrase examples below for clarification.

  6. Finally, Bateson states that the complete list of the previous requirements may be unnecessary, in the event that the subject is already viewing their world in double bind patterns. Bateson goes on to give the general characteristics of such a relationship:

    1. When the subject is involved in an intense relationship; that is, a relationship in which he feels it is vitally important that he discriminate accurately what sort of message is being communicated so that he may respond appropriately;

    2. And, the subject is caught in a situation in which the other person in the relationship is expressing two orders of message and one of these denies the other;

    3. And, the subject is unable to comment on the messages being expressed to correct his discrimination of what order of message to respond to: i.e., he cannot make a metacommunicative statement.

Thus, the essence of a double bind is two conflicting demands, each on a different logical level, neither of which can be ignored or escaped. This leaves the subject torn both ways, so that whichever demand they try to meet, the other demand cannot be met. "I must do it, but I can't do it" is a typical description of the double-bind experience.

For a double bind to be effective, the subject must be unable to confront or resolve the conflict between the demand placed by the primary injunction and that of the secondary injunction. In this sense, the double bind differentiates itself from a simple contradiction to a more inexpressible internal conflict, where the subject really wants to meet the demands of the primary injunction, but fails each time through an inability to address the situation's incompatibility with the demands of the secondary injunction. Thus, subjects may express feelings of extreme anxiety in such a situation, as they attempt to fulfill the demands of the primary injunction albeit with obvious contradictions in their actions.

  • The justification will likely be, "everyone else is doing it". However, I don't align with the majority, which was the core principle of being a JW - to avoid being "worldly" like the rest of Christianity.
